Error accessing offline records - Excel Spreadsheets - TRIM 184.108.40.2067 & Win 7/Office 2010
We are experencing issues in saving Excel Spreadsheets due to an HP TRIM error that keeps popping up. It is an intermittent issue and we cannot replicate it through testing.
Our staff may have a spreadsheet open, click Save As within Excel and then they recieve an error message - An error Occured accessing Offline Records. Document not saved.
Once this error pops up, if you click ok it just returns to the spreadsheet and there is no other way to save it. sometimes you can copy the data into a new blacnk workbook and it may save but it seems that we have to just ditch the spreadsheets and get our clients to start their work again.
Details of our set up:
- Integration is on for MS app's
- TRIM 220.127.116.117
- Win 7 package with Office 2010
- Offline records folders are within the drive as required
- Standard spreadsheet (no major macro's ro is it s a compound doc)
Error message attached. Any info on this or how we could fix it would be great.
We have uninstalled and reinstalled TRIM which seems to fix it but an easier work around would help.
You might be able to recreate the offline records repository:
These are the steps you should follow:
Offline records is redirected to follow us as part fo our roaming profiles. Is this part of the problem as it sometimes may not map to the drive/offline folder correctly on log in?
It is only happening with excel though. No cases of any of MS app being effected.
"...Offline records is redirected to follow us as part fo our roaming profiles. Is this part of the problem as it sometimes may not map to the drive/offline folder correctly on log in?..."
Absolutely. We've seen all sorts of errors occurring when the connection to the offline records documents folder or offline records database file is either very slow or generally flaky. I've also seen a range of errors when the roaming profiles fail to download correctly to the PC during login. There have been some enhancements to the check in/check out process in later TRIM/HPRM releases to improve TRIM's error handling in such situations, but as long as organisations configure their environments such that TRIM is trying to read from/write to a problematic network location, errors will continue.
In your case there may be some other issue with your Excel documents that's exacerbating or masking such issues. There have been some problems over the years with various confused versions/extensions for Excel spreadsheets, e.g. Excel documents being saved into TRIM as the wrong format or with the wrong file extension due to issues with the default save format in Excel vs the format the user chooses during Save As, or installed office compatibility packs causing similar format issues. You may benefit from having a closer look at the Excel documents the users are trying to save when the errors happen and seeing if you can find anything strange about them. Perhaps it's an Excel error that's causing TRIM to report its inability to save the document.
