HPCM 9 - User feedback and Moving from Trim 7.1 to 9

Hold on before going for a sip of Egg Nog and Christmas Pudding,  is anyone currently on TRIM 7.1 and thinking of moving to HP CM 9 in the New Year?

Are there any operators who have done the same thing? - Do you have to go from Trim 7(*) to RM8 then HPCM 9 (with schema and table upgrades in mind), or can we jump straight from 7 to 9

I would really like to hear from people who are currently operating HPCM 9 and if they have any important, potential showstopping critical points to raise (and lessons learnt), especially anyone whos had problems with Office 2010, or Office 2013/365 interaction

Thanks for all feedback in advance its much appreciated

First cab off the rank:

7.2x is the minumum requirement for an upgrade to both 8 & 9.

Therefore, your upgrade would be 7.1x to 7.2x to 9.

You can skip 8.

Next headache for most is the mapping of user types to fit in with the new licensing and user type models. Sometimes this is easy, other times not so much. Really depends on how much you have stuck to the standard types, or have done a lot of custom users, or modified the standard ones.

That should do for a start 🙂

to add to mike's comments

If you have any integrations or stuff written using the SDK then that all needs to be updated as HP Changed the SDK between 8.1 and 8.2

The user inteface is changed with a ribbon and a lot of menu options have moved around, and of course there are new options.

The retention / disposal dispositions have changed.

CM9 now supports office 2013 and 2016, and the addins for those products has chnaged behaviour for Open and Save. not sure if you will include an Operating system or office upgrade at the same time. I think CM9 will work with office 2010 that was supported by 7.1

My suggestion is do some user acceptance testing before you jump right in.  There are a number of UI changes in CM9 and they can be difficult for some users.

We migrated from 8.3 to 9 and during our testing we found a number of things that HPE had let slip through the cracks.
We also test Office 2010/13/16 both in 64 and 32 bit versions.  We did this because we had not quiet had a consistant Office environment.
