Migrating custom User Types to RM8

Apologies if this have been covered already - I have scoured the forums & google beforehand and haven't been able to find anything relevant.

I'll preface my question with this statement, in case readers aren't aware: User Type levels are now locked down in HPRM8; from what I understand this is to align to their new licesning model. So no more custom User Types in RM8..

My question is, what happens to custom User Types if upgrading to version 8?

Do they 'migrate' somehow or just stop working?

Does anything need to be done to custom User Types before upgrading?

I'm worried upgrading will simply break access for users that belong to a custom User Type, as it won't fit in with the 'hard-coded' RM8 User Types..

Re: Migrating custom User Types to RM8

To settle any concerns, Custom user types do not break. They migrate over to RM8.1 as a Customer Administrator.

Custom users still exist in RM8.1, but instead of selecting a 'Custom'  user type, you select the base level first, e.g. Administrator, then untick the permissions you DONT want them to have.

It's a bit backwards compared to the old system, but you still end up with the same result.

The thing you have to watch out for with converting from older versions to RM8.1 is that some new permissions were introduced, therefor your current Custom users wont have these new permissions and this will break some features they will currently be able to use.

Specifically, there's a new permission that's needed for users to Send-To > Mail Recipient.

Old Custom users wont be able to send items to an email address from RM8.1 until you give them the new permission.

Re: Migrating custom User Types to RM8

Thank you for the quick reply - it has alleviated my concerns somewhat :)

Sounds like it'd be better to migrate users into acceptable user types beforehand to avoid giving everyone admin rights!

Re: Migrating custom User Types to RM8

That's the misconception though, they will be 'Administrator' users, but without all the admin permissions, they will still only have the exact permissions they had before the upgrade!

However, your idea is correct, I would also recommend setting people to a normal permission type before upgrading. ;)
