RM8.0.1.6703 - intermittent refresh of RM8 Trim windows

Hi there, we have rolled out RM8.0.1.6703 into production.

One issue all users are experiencing 5 plus times a day is their RM8/Trim window going blank then refreshing, all files that were expanded are minimised, any changes or selections made have been cleared.

This flickering/refreshing can go on for a few minutes then stop and RM8/Trim functions as usual.

Our users are getting very frustrated with this. It impacts productivity and the overall user experience.

We have enabled logging on both of our Trim servers and asked staff to report occurrences however our HP Trim/RM8 partner was unable to find anything in these logs that could contribute to fixing this problem.

We tested to see if deleting a location led to the problem (as per an internal change request on the support portal) but this didn't trigger the refreshing.

When the refreshing occurs there does appear to be an increase in the read/writes to the SQL database.

Has anyone else experienced this with RM8? We're at a loss on how to fix it. Thanks very much

Re: RM8.0.1.6703 - intermittent refresh of RM8 Trim windows

This problem isn't unique to RM8, it has been around with TRIM 6 and 7 too.

It is almost always a result of someone performing a bulk action causing a large number of cache updates to be sent to all clients.

It can also be caused by a single update to an items which is cached on all clients.

e.g. If you have 100-200 clients open and they all have the same record open in a search result screen, tray or whatever and one person updates just that one record, it will trigger a cache update to be sent to all client and hence a refresh.

You really need to review what is being changed at the time of the issue (via WG or Audit logs) and what other users may have open or be doing at that time.

Let me know if you need any further help!

Re: RM8.0.1.6703 - intermittent refresh of RM8 Trim windows

Thanks for the suggestions Grundy - we didn't experience the problem with Trim 7.11 and haven't had much of a change in number of users, number of records and the like since we upgraded a month or so ago.

We have a total of 130 staff split amongst 8-10 teams so it's unlikely that theyd all have the same record open in the search screen or have the same item cached.

We'll continue the Trim Workgroup logging and review, at the moment there doesn't seem to be an easy or simple answer.

Re: RM8.0.1.6703 - intermittent refresh of RM8 Trim windows

Hi
The symptoms you mentions points to initially two main area that you can look into
1- SQLServer (if your DB is sqlserver) login to SqL instance and check your RM Database database files and especially its Growth size ( default is 1MB) which is usually the cause of issue.

2- Your DataStore access and disk speed.
Network and CPU plays a role as well. I did experience the similar freeze initially that was caused due to my Doc store mounted old SATA SAN.
Hope that help.

Cheers,
Harry

Must say it sounds suspiciously like:

QCCR2D52388: Locations - Search results automatically refresh when a location is deleted (Fixed in 8.0.1.6741 (Patch 2) released today)
