Trim Error - update is not current

I am receiving this error when opening newly registered records.
'The Reocrd you are attempting to update is not current - it was updated by another use on 3:11:02PM. You should refresh your Record and retry your updates.

refreshing the list fixes some but not all until you try to view them and then refresh again. What is causing this?

Some explanations:

1) When the record is a folder type, someone else may have put a new document into it and this change not yet reflected to your local machine.
The TRIM mechanism to update the data sometimes seem to fail so an F5 (and sometimes even F6) is needed.

2)You had the document open in Word and closed the application which can take quite a few seconds for TRIM to recognize, in which time you could have started another operation that record which you will have to cancel, because of the check-in.

3) When you're editing a document record and on the revision tab view an older revision. Then internally TRIM saves the record (for auditing purposes) and then you will loose any other changes you made to that record because you will have to CANCEL and start editing the meta-data again. Really frustrating.

There must be other ways to get this behavior, but we've experienced these to be the most common.

Sander's explanation provides a good insight into the root cause of the issue. Adding to that, there is a Context System Option that allows you to ignore those issues. Open TRIM Context, click Tools->Context Administration->System Options->Miscellaneous Tab and then check the option near the bottom labeled "Continue to process update transactions when they are based on out of date cached data".

This should at least resolve the majority of the issues you're experiencing.

What is the impact of this change? Would it be a problem if there is actually one person updating the record while another is trying to access it?

I would like to know this too? by changing this does it mean that two staff can be updating the metadata at the same time and have a issue?

We got the same error after running an update to the records via import. The last action done on the records was like 2 or 3 weeks ago before the update. Is it caching on the server?  How do you refresh those records?

Also, by having the checkbox checked, is that the resolution?
