<(RM) Support tip> Issues with Send To and Outlook Integration in 8.1x, 8.2x and 8.3x

 

There have been some issues relating to a background RM executable, that is used in the RM/Outlook integration:

  •  The Outlook Form, when using the Send To, is not displayed, if the record title contains some special characters (this issue is resolved in RM 8.3 Patch 1, and will be included in any future patch releases for RM 8.2 and RM 8.11)
  • When using Send To, the email is placed in the user's Outbox and not sent immediately (RM 8.2 patch 1, Outlook 2007 SP3). There have been changes in the handling of integration for Office 2007 SP3 in RM 8.3 Patch 1, which should resolve this issue

 In the RM Client installation, there is a Mail Helper Utility - TRIMMailHelper.exe. This is used to handle an issue where the Mail system would report an error 'Unable to Send Mail', when Mail form was left idle for over five minutes.  The Mail Helper Utility, can cause the above problems. The workaround is to rename or remove the TrimMailHelper.exe. The impact of the workaround, is that if the Mail form is left open with no activity for five mins,  the error message displays,  and the email will be handled using the default system settings.   If this workaround, does not help with your problem, or if you want further information, please open a support case with HPE RM Support.

Test the workaround on a single workstation with the RM Client Installed, first. You need to test, to ensure that this is the cause of your problem and that it does resolve it:

  1. Before starting the RM Client, rename the file TrimMailHelper.exe in the Records Manager Client installation folder; then it can be renamed back, if it does not resolve the problem
  2. Start the Client, and check if there is any change in the handling
