Maintaining Old DRA Instance WHILE installing New DRA Config

So currently we are running:

Windows Server 2008 R2 with DRA 8.6 SP2 (All Virtual Machines)

I work in an Enterprise environment and we would not only like to
upgrade to DRA 9.0, but also update out servers to Windows Server 2012
R2.

So I am wondering if it is possible (or if anyone has tried) to install
the new VM's with Server 2012 R2 and Install DRA 9.0 on the same domain
while maintaining the DRA 8.6 SP2 Instance until the new setup has been
fully configured so that my admin users have a smooth transition.

Any information provided would be greatly appreciated!

Per NetIQ Support

Still, if anyone has done this please share your experience

Re: Maintaining Old DRA Instance WHILE installing New DRA Config

We have customer that perform upgrades in this manner regularly. This
is a fully supported method of doing a parallel install of DRA in order
to upgrade from an older version and provide a smooth migration. I am
personally working with 2 companies at this time that are doing their
upgrade in this manner.

Re: Maintaining Old DRA Instance WHILE installing New DRA Config

Although I have done this on a Dev environment, I was told that this is
a supported configuration, part of a multi-master server setup. You have
on old version DRA and a new version of DRA running parallel on your
infrastructure.
