VMware GRE Unable to Restore Files From Raw Device (Whole-Disk) LVM PVs

We are trying to restore files from Linux VMs using the VMware GRE Plugin. The files in question live on disks that were configured similar to this:

pvcreate /dev/sdb (whole disk, no partitions)
vgcreate ...
lvcreate ...
mkfs ...
mount lvname /mountpoint

On the GRE screen in vSphere, we select a VM, create a new GRE request, Browse, and see the list of disks. When we try to expand a disk to see the underlying logical volumes, filesystems, and files, it says, "Loading..." for a while and then nothing happens.

On the other hand...

VMware GRE seems to work fine for Linux disks where a Linux LVM partition (type '8e' in the Linux parted utility) is created on the disk first, and then the LVM PV is created using said partition similar to this:

/dev/sdb --> /dev/sdb1 (partition type 8e)
pvcreate /dev/sdb1
vgcreate...
lvcreate...
mkfs...
mount lvname /mountpoint

Can Data Protector be altered to read whole-disk LVM PVs? Nearly all of our critical, data-containing disks have been configured using whole-disk LVM PVs for years. We finally got the chance to move from filesystem backups to VMware Integration backups and now we have discovered this limitation. We don't want to go back to filesystem backups!

Another backup product we are testing does not have this limitation.

@UliW_MF I already did and they sent me here. How about re-opening this suggestion? If this is the treatment customers get, we'll find another solution.

Competitors can do it. Thanks anyway.
