I have not found any best practices yet.
I also have the problem that the global zone is Solaris 11, which is not yet supported on any release of Data Protector.
I downloaded the installation files (since my backup server is Windows) on the Solaris 10 zone directly, and followed instructions for a fresh install.
I now have a Solaris 10 client (the zone) on the server and backup all the filesystems it has. I also have an Oracle database using raw files, which I backup with the RMAN client.
It seems to work well, but I still don't have a disaster recovery method.
I found a white paper on Solaris 11 disaster recovery.
However the archive this creates is over 120GB and I don't have enough disk space to save it. I should have created a separate zpool for the application data on the zone and left the default rpool just for the OS.
