CIFS share on DP 7

Hi everyone,

I want to configure a backup device to a cifs network share (Data Domain NAS).

When I try to select "Backup to Disk" and select StoreOnce Software Deduplication and click on Next, the wizard ask me to enter a "Store".  I try to enter "\\nas_ip_address\share" but in the textbox I'm unable to enter the slash character.

Please how can I specify the NAS CIFS share? Thanks

Piero

Re: CIFS share on DP 7

Hello,

The storeOnce software deduplication is not supported on CIFS NAS.

I may be wrong but your Data Domain should be able to be presented as a VTL.

You should use that mode, the deduplication engine will be the Data Domain one.

You must select the capacity licensing for that device to be able to have many drive running simultaneously.

If you want to backup to a CIFS share, the file Library is a good candidate for that (no deduplication from DP, but from the storage if available))

Re: CIFS share on DP 7

  Hi Christophe,

        thanks for your response.

I tried to configure a Backup to Disk device with StoreOnce software, and in the Store field I entered the drive letter of an available disk on cell manager.

The result is a deduplicated backup on drive E:, see attachment.

Is it a right method to use StoreOnce software?

thanks

Re: CIFS share on DP 7

Yes, this is the correct way.

Your drive should be local (from the Windows Point of view).

Just ensure that you have engouh space in it.

The next step is to create a Gateway (a kind of drive) to access the store.

Then you'll be able to backup using the storeonce deduplication engine.

Christophe

Re: CIFS share on DP 7

Hi all,

to use StoreOnce software store on a Data Domain makes no sense at all.

If you want to use DP StoreOnce - use any disk for that. If you want to use Data Domain, create your devices as filelibrary using the cifs share provided by DD.

Best regards

Daniel
