Jump to solution

We have  5 ESXI (version:6.5) in same cluster under same vCenter (version: vCenter ppliance 6.5). As per customer requirement , I have taken 3 VM backup using vCenter from one host  and then try to restore in another ESXi host under same vCenter. But it shown error as bellows. Hi All

Finally I have added again  vCenter and required ESXi using FQDN not IP  as a client in DP. Then added in backup specifications.  Finally I have taken backup of some VM of ESXi-01 using vCenter and then restore another ESXI-02 successfully.

So now my issue is solved.

Here mention that  I got ping all ESXi  including  vCenter from CM cli.

I don't add ESXi info in CM /etc/hosts location.

How to get access ESXi data store where I want restore backed up data from CM (Linux 7.4) ? Is it needed ?

Hello @Ashraf_Islam84,

I guess you try to restore a backed up VM to a different Datastore not to a different host, right? If not, restoring to a different host depends on your configuration.

Is the CentOS 7.4 box also used as the backup host (VEPA integration installed)? Looking at the following example (picture) the backup host, that needs to be able to communicate with the target ESXi host, Datstore and/or vCenter is selected (1).

If the restore should go to an ESXi host that is not vCenter managed you need to make sure the ESXi hosts are imported to the Cell (Clients context). Then you can select it as a Restore Client (2). If the ESXi host is vCenter managed you need to disconnect the management from vCenter or the ESXi host console first.

If you're restoring to vCenter you can overwrite the target cluster/host (3). Hosts in a cluster can't be selected for a restore. vCenter will decide where the restored VM will be placed.

Hi Sebastian

Thanks for your quick response..

Here  both ESXi  (01 & 02) (6.5) in same vCenter (Vcenter Appliance 6.5). I have taken VM backup of ESXi 01 using vCenter. And now want to restore diffrent ESXi-02  in different datastore.

Hi @Ashraf_Islam84,

I have not tried this for some time. What is the Data Protector version?

You're using IPs and not DNS names for the vCenter and ESXi hosts? I find this quite hard to manage. If this is a new setup you should really configure entries in DNS (forward and reverse) and make sure the Cell Manager/Backup Proxy uses them.

Hi All

Finally I have added again  vCenter and required ESXi using FQDN not IP  as a client in DP. Then added in backup specifications.  Finally I have taken backup of some VM of ESXi-01 using vCenter and then restore another ESXI-02 successfully.

So now my issue is solved.

Hi @Ashraf_Islam84,

I'm glad this is working now. As mentioned I have never used clients with IPs only in customer environments.
