Cannot forward segment. ([1117].

Jump to solution

Hi,

I'm trying to import a tape from version 7 to version 10 of DP, however the following error appears to me: "Can not forward segment. ([1117] The request could not be executed because of an I / O device error." I tried updating the FW from the tape library, updating the drive driver, but to no avail.

What's my mistake?

Procedures:

1) I inserted the tape into the equipment;

2) Scan the tape;

3) Localized foreign tape

4) Attempt of bakcup

5) Same mistake always

Hi Holger,

Have you configured the proper Block Size on the device? DP 10.x uses 256k by default vs. 64k on 7.x for newly configured devices. What is the device type? (LTO, DDS, etc.)

Thanks for reply,

It's a LTO5 drive.

When you select the 64K option the following message appears:

[Major] From: MMA@win-0dquh5jcnpu.hardlink.local "IBM: ULT3580-HH5_2_win-0dquh5jcnp" Time: 3/26/2018 1:17:11 PM [90:52] Tape0: 0: 1: 0C Can not read from device (Invalid device block size 64KB, should be 256KB.)

Hi Holger,

this confirms that you're original block size setting was right which is good. 🙂 Can you confirm that you're able to backup and restore when using LTO5 cartridges in this drive? LTO3 should be readable, but this would be a good and quick test. I have seen cases with similar errors where the HBA or driver caused similar issues. Can you comment on your server platform and HBA used?

Hello Holger,

I see here "Scan the tape" - I would assume this is good.

Can you read the header and maybe share the results.

omnimlist -device <BackupDevice> -slot <slotID> -header -monitor

and then read the whole tape

omnimlist -device <BackupDevice> -catalog -slot <SlotID> -monitor

Specify the <BackupDevice> that you can use and the <SlotID> - where the tape reside.

Need to see the results of the above.

Rgds,

Sherman
