Connection to Media Agent broken

Hello,

I have the Data Protector 6.21 version installed on Windows 2008. All patches are installed. The Cell Manager also is Media Agent. The backup drive is Tape Library with 02 drives connected via SAN FC.

I'm backing up a Windows client via the network. The client has 04 directories being backed up. The Load Balance and Concurrency are configured. In the middle of the backup process starts to show the connection fails. Below the error:

Re: Connection to Media Agent broken

Please provide full session report if the "reconnect broken connections" flag is not set on the backup specification.

Re: Connection to Media Agent broken

Hi Cleber Zorzi,

This problem will come  Two reasons ,

1) The connection from the media agent is broken because the time limit of DA ( disk agent ) is finished / or reached the max time

2) The Volumes of File system / Drives / mount points ( C : , D : , E : )is backing up the default folders like “System Volume Information “ & “RECYCLER” , these both volumes take a lot of time to Read ( VBDA ) and Write ( BMA ).

You Try for this solution :

Log on to the cell manager GUI

Select the backup -> Backup Specifications -> Filesystem

Select the backup Specification name “ XYZ.. “

Right click on the backup specification and select the properties.

Under the source tab select the client which is creating problem.

     Select the volumes like ( C: 😧 drive )

Unselect the folders like ( “System Volume Information “ & “RECYCLE

     Apply the changes.

If the above method was not success

Select the backup -> Backup Specifications -> Filesystem

Select the backup specification name “XYZ”

Right click on the backup specification and select the properties.

Under the Backup Object Summary tab  select the object  click on object Properties  under Object Properties window select the Trees/Filters tab under Excludes option 

  Add “ / System Volume Information” “/RECYCLER”

  Now apply the changes

Note : The volume of C or D drive is backing up the “ System volume information “ & “ RECYCLER “ , the both folders need to be unselected in every drives/ Mount points / file system “  like ( c,D,E )

Solution 2:

log on to the cell manager

go to the path c:\program files\omniback\config\Server\options\

Under options folder , you can see the file name “ global “

Now copy the original copy to some place

Now change the parameters which are define for DA ( Disk Agent )& MA (Media agents)

The parameters are “SmDaIdleTimeout & SmMaIdleTimeout “

The Time out session between media agent and disk agent should be like below

The time limit of media agent should be greater than Disk agent

The default values of Disk agent is 120 min ( 2 hours )

The default values of Media agent is 140 min (2.20 min )

To change the time values use the below parameters , and apply this changes in global file

Parameters SmDaIdleTimeout=TimeoutInMinutes    (The default size is 120 Min)

                       SmMaIdleTimeout=TimeoutInMinutes   (  The default size is 140 Min )

if you change these settings I hope your problem will slove .Plese replay for this solution it is helpful or not

Thanks&Regards
