DB properties not appear

Hi, DP 09.00 build 88.

in event log:

[138:742] Backup session "2019/01/03-2" of the backup specification "Full_Backup",backup group "Default" has errors: 1.

Description:
Errors have been detected during the backup, copy, or consolidation session.

Actions:
Check error messages of the session by using:
* Data Protector GUI (Internal Database context)
* Session Errors report
* omnidb -session <sessionID> -report

when under Backup node and right click on DB and then Properites, nothing comes up.

Is it normal?

I am just replacing somebody, not a guru in Data protector and trying to find a problem of failed job.

See please screenshot... I guess when I will access properties of the job I should see some prob description..

Thx.

Re: DB properties not appear

Hello @mla

To see the errors you will need to go to Internal Database and check the session. You can do filters so search only for one specific backup specification.

If you have an specific error open a case or add it here to help you.

Re: DB properties not appear

Hi @mla

Run the following command:

omnidb -session <session_id> -report >session.txt

Where session_id is the session number.

Please attach the complete session.

Best Regards

Re: DB properties not appear

here we go...

so easy (when you know how :) )

The message is clear:

--- Cannot open device ([1112] No media in drive. ) ----

what it really means? the operator changes tapes daily.

So or drive is gone or what you will say... what will be next step? to run some utility for checking drive health?

THANKS!

Re: DB properties not appear

Hello @mla

I was able to reproduce the error on my lab:

[Major] From: BMA@server.domain "Drive_Test" Time: 7/1/2019 09:50:24
[90:54] Tape0:1:0:1:0C
Cannot open device ([1112] No media in drive. )

Is your drive HP:Ultrium 6-SCSI a standalone device?

If so, you will need to move a tape manually to the device before start the backup.

Re: DB properties not appear

Hi,

yes it is standalone device on W2008.

The operator change a tape manually 5 days a week.

So they slide a tape in...

For me the message No media in Drive, means one thing the drive is not able to read a tape.

It is = drive is dead or something else.

Do you agree with my point? If not what you can suggest?

Thx.

Re: DB properties not appear

Hello @mla

If I move a tape to my drive I was able to run the backup with no problem.

But you can try this:

  • Make sure that one tape is in the device.
  • Run: TapeAnalyser -device scsi1:2:1:0C-verify -header

The command should be run on the Media Agent (xcelera)

This command test the tape you have on the device. If this command does not receive answer could be because the drive is not in a good state. If so, then contact hardware team to check it.

Re: DB properties not appear

Hi Victor,

it is more than a month that I started the thread and follow your suggestions in order to troubleshoot a failed backup operation.

Nothing obvious was found. The tape was in drive.

And the solution was so simple  :)... the person responsible for this backup just aborted the job - it was in Running state for a week.

Yesterday I found the same situation. Backup failed for more than a week. I tried to see the messages in GUI. Under message tab was nothing for failed jobs.

Just to quickly fix it, I went to Monitor content and deleted running session.

I am curious for finding the cause of the problem. Why periodically the job cannot finish?

I can understand that if the backup job is over the tape capacity it will wait for a new tape. But tapes are changed every day. And I am sure tapes have more than needed capacity (don't have numbers now). But checked a month ago.

So aborted job yesterday morning and nigh backup run OK.

Is there a way to find what is causing this periodic issue?

One thing is clear the drive working. May be to run some diagnostics?

Thanks.
