DP 10.30 VMWare Integration Not Integrating

Hi all,

So this post is a continuation of:

https://community.microfocus.com/t5/Data-Protector-User-Discussions/Upgrade-from-DP-9-09-to-10-30-and-VMware-integration/m-p/2683707#M159873

So we upgraded to DP 10.30 a couple of weeks ago, and today the VMWare team upgrade to VMware 6.5, We've now got a few issues:

  • To confirm whilst we were on DP 10.30 and VMWare 5.5 normal VM level backups were working
  • Since the VMware upgrade today VM backups have been tested and working successfully
  • However, we did then un-register GRE, and re-register, and it's gone, GRE has disappeared completely from VMware. It's not in the list of available plugins, nothing, even though the GUI says it registered it ok

We're a little lost, is there something we're missing that we need to click, set up, configure since the upgrade to 10.30 and now 6.5 of VMware? We are checking again the manuals but are missing something.

Any clues?

Thanks, Andy

Re: DP 10.30 VMWare Integration Not Integrating

I can see two possible scenarios under the documentation. Try them and let us know:

https://docs.microfocus.com/itom/Data_Protector:2019.02/VMWareGRETroubleshoot

  • VMware Granular Recovery Extension tab is missing

  • VMware Granular Recovery Extension tab is missing with vCenter Server plug-in disabled

Re: DP 10.30 VMWare Integration Not Integrating

Hi Andres. I work with Andy so thought I'd post a quick update. We've continued to look at the issue and have checked firewall settings which appear to be correct, and the Wintel team have told us they have seen incoming traffic when we try and install the plugin. We've also tried installing the plugin by using the Vcentre Admin account but this hasn't helped. I don't think it was mentioned in Andy's original post but this is a virtual centre appliance - not sure if that makes any difference? Looking at the support matrix, it appears to be supported. Whenever we try and install the plugin via DP, we're told it has worked but nothing appears in VC.

Thanks,

Mike.

Re: DP 10.30 VMWare Integration Not Integrating

Hi all,

So another update from us. We have tried a few times again to get this working, and we seem to have got further, but still cannot see the GRE on the VMware GUI. When we now look in the DP GUI at the VMware Client we see three tabs:

  • General
  • Login
  • Licensed Host

The last tab is not normally there. When we click on licensed host we get our two VMware ESX hosts. When we click a host though it says "No license available. Contact customer support to get new licenses". This is strange as we are using a capacity based license which should not need separate license keys for VMware integration.

Also when we check the VMware MOB (Managed Object Browser), we are seeing the new 10.30 version of the GRE now, it's there in MOB, but not on the VMware GUI at a guest level, or as an available client plug-in. We have removed it from MOB, and tried again, and it does get back to MOB, but not in VMware GUI anywhere.

One thing our VMware team have said is that their vCentre appliance is 6.5 U2, but the individual blades are still 5.5. So could this be our problem, a mismatch which is stopping the plug-in getting in to the right place? Also we have found the GRE zip file, can we try to manually install that ZIP at the appliance CLI?

Any help will be gratefully received as we are losing the plot here trying to get this working!

Thanks, Andy
