DP 6.2 Oracle Error, no client connected

I just upgraded to DP 6.2 and tried to run my Oracle backups. The backups start but The error returns that there is no client connected. I didnt no change anything on the backup and the backups time out!

How do I proceed in trouble shooting?

Description

Backup Session Manager did not receive a connection from
a bar client and it therefore aborted the session.

Action

* Change the SmWaitForFirstBackupClient global variable to set a bigger timeout.

* Also make sure the system that the BAR client is started on is included

The backup waited 120 minutes before timing out!

Please let me know if you know how to fix this.

Thanks,

Re: DP 6.2 Oracle Error, no client connected

Hi.
It´s a Unix or Windows client?
Have you enabled "Encrypted Control Communication" on Cell Manager and client side?
If it´s enabled, try to exclude it or, export and then import again the client to disable it.
If you try to reconfigure the specification you get any error?
I have a support case opened with the same issue on Solaris client and I think it appears to be the same issue than this other post "DP 6.20 Oracle Error".
I hope this can help you.

Re: DP 6.2 Oracle Error, no client connected

I do get the same error from time to time but if I restart the Job it seems to work, I do get allot of IPC time out errors on the Oracle backups

Re: DP 6.2 Oracle Error, no client connected

I am running HP-UX 11.23

Encrypted communication is not enabled.

This job and 2 other jobs have failed for this reason.

Im still fairly new to data protector, let me know what your thoughts are?

Re: DP 6.2 Oracle Error, no client connected

I assume you updated the clients to 6.2 as well?  There are two post 6.2 patches for HPUX and five patches for windows.  Try patching if you haven't already.

Re: DP 6.2 Oracle Error, no client connected

Could you please review debug.log, oracle8.log and syslog on the client to find out if some client module crashs when backup is started. Verify hostnames used for DA/ORA, MA and CS.

Sebastian

Re: DP 6.2 Oracle Error, no client connected

Hi Barbedor,

Ok I'm getting a bit confused - I thought that the oracle database was running on a windows cluster? The logs you detail below are not from a windows client?

Can you please resolve the IP address 192.168.4.4 on the client and check to see whether this name matches the cell_server file on the client and let me know?

Can you also tell me your cell manager os and your oracle client os?

regards,
jenni

Re: DP 6.2 Oracle Error, no client connected

192.168.4.3 is the first node

192.168.4.4 is the second node

192.168.4.15 is the VIP identified by "sauvegarde", mentioned in the cell_server file

On client, the ip address 192.168.4.4 identify the second node

Re: DP 6.2 Oracle Error, no client connected

There must be something wrong in the configuration files. Not sure if the upgrade broke something or if it was not 100% correct before. Would be best to start over completely to make everything is fine.

1. Write down how the backup spec was configured / get the required passwords
2. Delete backup specs using the GUI
3. Export the virtual host from cell
4. Export the physical hosts from cell and delete software
5. rm -rf /etc/opt/omni /opt/omni /var/opt/omni on the physical nodes to clean up
6. push Data Protector software (DA, ORA and maybe MA) including patches to the physical nodes / import virtual host afterwards
7. Check if the users configured for Oracle integration are in the admin or operator group in Data Protector user management / double check host names here, too
8. Reconfigure Oracle integration from scratch and test again

Doing so makes sure the binaries are current, name resolution is working and written to the correct files in the right format. Let us know how it goes.

Sebastian
