DP 6.2 : how to format tape in Data Protector format ?

Hi,

I receive some  old tapes that I can use. All old data from other system can be erased. I input tapes in DP and format them, but it's in ANSI Label format, not Data Protector format. And it's not useful in DP, how can I do to change the initial format on old tapes ?

Thanks for your help.

Re: DP 6.2 : how to format tape in Data Protector format ?

Ok, I see. The problem is from the label. I need to format them 1by1 to specify the label (or input the barcode by hand) and activate the "Force operation" option.

I don't know if you have a Barcode reader, or if teh tapes are bar-coded.  When you Format a tape in DP, you have 3 choices for the label

  - INput the label your self

  -  Let DP do it, let labeel will be the name of the media pool with _some number

 -  Barcode lable

One method is not inherently 'Better' ahan another

I am also in total agreement with the Force Operation option that you identified, any tape not fresh out of the box needs to have this option enabled
