(DP) Support Tip: When enabling ECC in the GUI for a client, an error occurs

After updating the cell server from 8.14 to 8.16 and attempting to enable Encrypted Communication Control in the GUI for a client, an error is reported that it was not possible to enable encryption.

Because the cell server is still using the old certificate technology (hpdpcert.pem ), the customer cannot enable ECC for the clients through the GUI. The new GUI (8.16) uses the new certificate technology ( <FQDN_hostname>_cert.pem ). The only way to turn on ECC for the clients is to use the following from the command line :

omnicc -encryption -enable <client> -cert hpdpcert.pem -key hpdpcert.pem -trust hpdpcert.pem

In order to use the new technology, the only method to use the new technology ( <FQDN_hostname>_cert.pem ) is to do the following and the most important step is step 1.

 1. Update the clients all to 8.16.   This has to be done because the new inet on the client has the ability to do the “disable” command from the omnicc.

 2. omnicc –encryption –disable –all

 3. omnicc –encryption –enable –all
