Debugging SAP/Data Protector issue

Jump to solution

Can anyone help me hunt down the following error?

On ONE of out 28 SAP systems I get the following error after and ONLINE or OFFLINE backup:

[Critical] From: OB2BAR_OMNISAP@sappss.ssmhc.com "OMNISAP"  Time: 09/11/16 23:46:34
      Failed to execute 'connect %s as sysdba;
set pagesize 0;
set linesize 1024;
set verify off;
set echo off;
set feedback off;

alter database backup controlfile to '%s';
'.

[Major] From: OB2BAR_OMNISAP@sappss.ssmhc.com "OMNISAP"  Time: 09/11/16 23:46:34
      Oracle control file backup failed.

When I check the integration from the command line it comes back good:

(root@sappss)# ./util_sap.exe -CHKCONF PSS
*RETVAL*0

When I do the Configuration check from inside the GUI it also comes back OK.

In the alert log there were no issues (wonder why it did 2 though):

Sun Sep 11 23:46:34 2016
alter database backup controlfile to '/oracle/PSS/sapbackup/ctrlPSS.dbf'
Completed: alter database backup controlfile to '/oracle/PSS/sapbackup/ctrlPSS.dbf'
Sun Sep 11 23:48:32 2016
alter database backup controlfile to '/oracle/PSS/sapbackup/ctrlPSS.dbf'
Completed: alter database backup controlfile to '/oracle/PSS/sapbackup/ctrlPSS.dbf'

I pushed the 9.07 upgrade out to the CM as well as all the nodes.

The errors are all gone now.  Argh!

Hi Vince,

please try to login with <SID>adm to the SAP system and execute sqlplus / as sysdba. Then execute select * from V$PWFILE_USERS; and check if system has sysdba and sysoper rights.

Please use the Accept Solution button next to my post and assign a KUDO (thumbs up icon) if this works for you.

That was the first thing I checked and all was happy.  I even went so far as to recreate the password file.

SQL> select * from v$pwfile_users;

USERNAME SYSDB SYSOP SYSAS

------------------------------ ----- ----- -----

SYS TRUE TRUE FALSE

SYSTEM TRUE TRUE FALSE

Hello

It must be any right issue with user that is owner of this session backup, you are running commands and tests from root user therefore environment is different.

Please check which user is teh backup owner and which rights are granted

Best Regards

There is no updated SAP R/3-related code in 9.07. This means the problem would have been resolved by upgrading the agent even with the old version. I'm glad it is working now. Please mark this topic as resolved.
