Exporting DB from HP-UX to Windows

Jump to solution
Hi,

Is it possible to export Data Protector's Database from a HP-UX Cell Manager and Import it in to a Windows Cell Manager?

From omnidbutil man page:
The contents of MMDB and CDB can be exported to and re-created from
text files. Text files are ASCII on UNIX and UNICODE on Windows.

The only supported "Migration" is hpux (parisc) to hpux (itanium). The databases are different between Unix and Windows. Unix is ASCII, while Windows are UNICODE. They don't play well, even after read/write db.... filenames trashed and so forth

This is one thing I really wish they had a work-around / fix for, as you more or less have to "commit" to a platform....forever

I had not done this before, but it "may be" possible using omnidbutil writedb/readdb procedure.

Wich data protector version are you using?

Thanks for your replies.

I tried the write/read but it failed. That's when I found out about the database differences.

I was hoping for a magic conversion tool.

Thanks again.

"I was hoping for a magic conversion tool."

yep...one would think that this is doable, and you should be able to convert between codesets...but you also need information about the structure of the database(s) and the flat files used by the read/writedb processes.

It astounds me that this has never been addressed, but maybe others don't see it as a "big deal".
