Hi, we are running DP10.60 and have intermittent issues with large Oracle RMAN backups.

Jump to solution

The issues appears to happen at the end of the backup where the last item fails, the tapes unload but the backup session just sits there, we logged a call, however because the issue is overnight with other successful backups and intermittent we were not in a position to send debug logs when it actually happened

So only one out of 100 backup specification fails?
I guess it is for a specific system, correct?
You can either enter the debug option to the schedule or into the omnirc file of a specific system.
Details will be provided by support.

You can run that specific session in debug mode with circular debugging and collect the debug log files in the morning.

As the issue appear at the end of session that can probably help.

Kind regards,

Hard to say what is the root cause, but i have seen a similar case in lab where a fix was provided.

if you have an ftp account for me i can upload it, but you should also discuss that with owner of your supportcase, so that he knows

Hello,

the analysis of debugs is essential to analyze these kind of issues.

A logic problem analysis will help to keep the debugs at a minimum level.

Logic problem analysis:

Does is happen at a specific time?
Does it happen for all system or only a specific one?
Does it happen for all instances?
Does it happen for all kind of backups (for example full and log backup)?

Based on this, you should work on a plan with support how a failing session can be caught in debug mode.

Hi,

Has the hotfix described in the replies in 10.80??

How can we only obtain logs for just this 1 backup amongst 100+ other successful backups?

--> The fix is for 10.60, ask support if it matches your issue.

How can we only obtain logs for just this 1 backup amongst 100+ other successful backups?
--> By doing a logical problem analysis, see above.

But please discuss with case-owner

Do you run 100 backup during the night on the oracle server with the same backup spec name ?

If not I will send you the instruction on how to set debug mode for a specific backup session.

Is you cell manger linux or windows ?

Kind regards,

Dionisio

Yes, I understand that this is a hotfix for 10.60, however we are intending to upgrade to 10.80 and the question is as the fix been put into 10.80?

With regards to the comment about debug:-

This is intermittent, not at specific times or just specific backups / servers, the only common factor is that it only happens on RMAN "HOT" backups ( HOT meaning the database stays online ) and we have lots of other backups RMAN, FS,Vmware snapshot backups running at the same time and these are perfect.

The question is can be run debug logs for only this 1 backup whilst all the others are running, the support call we raised suggested that we could not do that and when we ran the backup on its own with debug it did not fail at that time or took too long because of the debug

as reported, there is a IB (instrumented module) for 10.80

as this is an open lab-case, you surely wont have it included in 10.80 by default
