How to configure complex Schedules with HPE Data Protector 10.0x ?

Hi Folks,

we would like to upgrade to Data Protector 10.0x but we are in some troubles with our specific customer-schedules.

So, the Web-based combined scheduler is cute but is ther any chance to build such schedules as followed?

-full -protection -days 96
-every
-day 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 -month
-at 23:00

-full -protection -days 96
-exclude
-day Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Sat
-at 23:00

-incr 1 -protection -days 67
-every
-day 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 -month
-at 23:00

-incr 1 -protection -days 67
-exclude
-day Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Sat
-at 23:00

-incr 2 -protection -days 60
-every
-day Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Sat
-at 23:00

In DP 909 we solved it by using the scheduler files in OmniBack/config/server/barschedule and ../schedule but in DP 10.0x this isn´t possible obvious...

Can someone help us in this case?

I've taken a close look again and so I want to check with you.

-full -protection -days 96
-every
-day 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 -month
-at 23:00

=> FULL BACKUP on every 15th to 21st of a month


-full -protection -days 96
-exclude
-day Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Sat
-at 23:00

=> FULL BACKUP every FRIDAY of the month


-incr 1 -protection -days 67
-every
-day 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 -month
-at 23:00

=> INCR1 BACKUP DAILY except 15th to 21st of a month

-incr 1 -protection -days 67
-exclude
-day Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Sat
-at 23:00

=> INCR1 BACKUP every FRIDAY of the month

-incr 2 -protection -days 60
-every
-day Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Sat
-at 23:00

=> INCR2 BACKUP DAILY except FRIDAY of the month


In summary:

1. FULL BACKUP every FRIDAY and every 15th to 21st of a month

2. INCR1 BACKUP every FRIDAY and every 1st to 14th AND 22nd to 31st of a month

3. INCR2 BACKUP DAILY except FRIDAY

and so there is a conflict between FULL and INCR1 that run at the same time friday at 23:00H.

 

Let me know if the above is what you need to do, specific to FULL, INCR1 and INCR2 backups.

How can there be a conflict if the FULL runs on Friday 15th to 21st and the INCR1 on all other days except 15th to 21st?

This is INCR1 backup to run every Friday at 2300H, which is in conflict to the FULL backup that run at the same day/time.

We can move forward as the web-based scheduler should be able to handle the conflict and so if you can lists to me in specific senternce what you need to run, I can recreate it on my 10.03 CM and share to you.


1. Full backup running every ???? and ????? per month.

2. Incr Backup running every ???? and ????? per month.

  • FULL Backup every 15th to 21st only if these days are fridays
  • INCR1 every Friday from 1st to 14th and 22nd to 31st
  • INCR2 every Day except Friday

Apologies for the late one Markus as I have been off  for the past days/weeks from work.

I've simulated your schedule on my test DP 10.03 CM and here is a summary.

Looking at your requirements:

- FULL Backup every 15th to 21st only if these days are fridays
- INCR1 every Friday from 1st to 14th and 22nd to 31st
- INCR2 every Day except Friday

I can see the above to be:

- FULL BACKUP every 3rd FRIDAY of the month
- INCR1 BACKUP every 1st, 2nd and 4th FRIDAY of the month
- INCR2 BACKUP Daily except FRIDAY

and so a total of 5 schedules will be created.

FULL BACKUP - occurs every 3rd Friday of the month

INCR1 BACKUP - occurs every 1st Friday of the month
INCR1 BACKUP - occurs every 2nd Friday of the month
INCR1 BACKUP - occurs every 4th Friday of the month

INCR2 BACKUP - occurs everyday (SUN/MON/TUE/WED/THURS/SAT) - except Friday

Let me know your comments and if you confirm the above, I will share you the screenshot for the web-based scheduler on how I have defined the above/each schedules.

As in anything complex, I tried to simplyfy things and so that is why I have those 3 lines that define your schedule requirement for one (1) backup, and then created the schedule based on that definition, which is total of 5 schedules for 1 datalist.
