IDB buffer size.

I use Data Protector 5.50 for backup, and when I run the backup for Public Folder of Exchange Server 2003, i get the following error : "A list of folders exceeds buffer size limit in IDB".

Any suggestion ?

Re: IDB buffer size.

Hi Andrea:
Your IDB looks good.

Our lab has informed that there is a limitation in DP 5.50, and this error is
produced to prevent corruption of the IDB. The lab states that this limitation
has been re-written in DP 6.0 + Patches. Here is the labs explaination:

This is a known limitation on DP 5.5 SMB integration.

With out this limitation, the IDB might get corrupt or might face >100K
buffer size issue. Hence the limitation message has been added.

In DP 6.0 with latest patches, the design is changed and the folder names are
stored in detailed catalog files and that will reduce the size of the buffer
storing all the folder names. That is the reason we are not facing >100K
issue on DP 6.0 SMB.

I recommend you reduce the size of the SMB configuration or when you update to DP6 the problem is fix on the patches.

Regards

Re: IDB buffer size.

Hi Eblyn,
I read your last post but i've a little problem. In our infrastructure we can't do upgrade to DP 6.0 version.
What can i do to reduce the size of the SMB configuration in DP 5.50 version ?
Thank's so much.
Have a nice day.

Re: IDB buffer size.

Hi Andrea,
Basically that means reducing the Number of Mailboxes, or reducing the number of mailboxes that are backed up in one backupâ s specification.
Or split the backup in 2 or 3 different session.

Buona fortuna.

Re: IDB buffer size.

Hi Eblyn,
I've selected "ONLY ONE" Public Folder but the result is the same.
Error :"A list of folders exceeds buffer size limit in IDB".

Other ideas.
Thank's.

Re: IDB buffer size.

Hi andrea,
Do you check if there are
to many subfolders/attachments etc.... on this folder.

But, I suggest you open at ticket with your HP support.

Re: IDB buffer size.

Log a support call, get debugs, confirm your issue is in fact the 100KB buffer limitation in 5.5. Then have them fix it or provide a workaround.

Thanks,
Scott
