Internal database shows particular backup for only past two weeks

Hi there --

We are running Data Protector 6.0 on an HP-UX 11.00 system. One of our image backups has entries in the internal database going back two weeks instead of four like most of our other backups. I am concerned as to why this would be occurring.

The only changes that were made in recent weeks had occurred on the second week of November. The fourth quarter archiving procedure of our most recent image tapes had taken place that week. When the tapes were sent offsite, they were exported from the internal database. New tapes were introduced into the media pools to replace those that were removed during the procedure.

Can anyone shed some light as to why this anomaly is occurring? Thanks.

Re: Internal database shows particular backup for only past two weeks

hi

i'm not sure if i got it right but:
if you export tapes from data protector idb, you also lose the detail catalog -> this mean that you can not find those sessions for restore.
also make sure that the logging level under options -> file systems options -> advanced is not set to "no log". if it is set to this, no information from the backup is logged to the idb.

hope this helps

Why did you exported the tapes?
This is not needed on any circunstance!!!!

If you just does not want that DP ask for those tape in this pool, then create a new pool called "offsite" or whatever and move the tapes there and make the catalog protection for this sessions "permanent", if you export the tapes you LOST all references to files on those tapes.

So "Can anyone shed some light as to why this anomaly is occurring?", Yes, files and sessions that used this tapes has been purged from the IDB, it is not an anomaly, is a normal operation.

If you need to restore from those tape you must inport the tape catalog wich may run for hours, depending of tape.
