Resuming a failed backup

When I try to resume a failed backup I get the message below. This occures on all 4 of my Cell Managers after upgrading to version 10.70. These are all Windows CM's. The "resume backup" worked fine with version 10.30. I do have a ticket open but it has been open for over 1 week.

Resuming this backup session is not supported because the resume point record is not available.

Please use omnib -restart or run a new backup.

Hello @Ken Landry

How this session dies? It crashes or aborts for other reason?

If so, could you please make a test? Run a backup in the GUI, then abort it and resume it. It gives the same error or not?

Hello @Ken Landry

I have been able to reproduce the issue.

We will need to send this case to labs. I will request some information in the case and then assign it to me.

Hi Ken,
is there a solution from Micro Focus for the case? I have the same messages on my 10.70 installation.

Thank you,

Martin

Support said that "resuming a backup" would never actually just resume a backup. It would just do another full backup. They told me to use the "restart failed objects" option instead.
I don't believe that because when I would resume a backup I would watch the backup and it would only backup the drives that had failed.
After a month of arguing with them I just gave up.

Hello @Ken Landry,

The Disk Agent has a checkpoint resume feature. It works pretty well in most cases unless someone "tweaked" the global options on failed object protection to be too aggressive (e.g. ForceFull).

Restart failed objects will actually restart the previously failed backup object with the same backup mode, unless global options change the behavior.

Sebastian Koehler

Hi Sebastian,

Does this mean that the 'ForceFull = 1' parameter should not be used in the global option?
