SCSI Library Error 12:1406

Jump to solution

I am getting  the error 12:1406 – No devices found.  It is Windows 2016 Active/Passive cluster with MSL6480 Library connected through fibre with multipath enabled for backup.

This was till very recently, suddenly  I noticed the backup on using one of these node as MA is failing. Later found the Library is not found on that particular node.  I get an error 12:1406 No device(s) found .

But on that node devbra otput is shown correctly.

Backups are working perfectly fine If I make the other node as active.

Hello @Vivek Achar,

Then the device path configured for the cluster node on the library device (changer) in Data Protector is not correct. Compare the path found in omnidownload -library <MSL6480> with the values found in devbra -dev. Update them in GUI or with omniupload -modify_library <MSL6480> -file  accordingly.

Hi Sebastin,

I dont see omnidownload on Cluster MA nodes... Do you suggest to do it from CM Server?

Below is the Devbra out from Passive cluster node... From DP-GUI the library is not found.

Hello @Vivek Achar,

Yes, omnidownload/omniupload resides on CM only. Compare it with the results of devbra -dev on the nodes and make the changes.

I Guess, some device type mismatch..  we are on a long weekend. And wil be able to do any activity only on 29/10. Any general reference would be appreciated.

Hello @Vivek Achar,

Please share devbra -dev from client acepdb02. You can test if the device responds properly by running the command uma -ioctl <Changer> -barcode on that client. If this does not open, try to reboot the tape library.

Have you configured SCSI reserve/release on the changer device? Maybe some process failed and locked the device. If this is the case it needs to be resolved by a library/device reboot.

Hi Sebastian,
Found there is a connectivity issue with MSL tape library with Server. Exchanger and few drives including the 1st drive with which the robotic is shared is not available.

Storage team is looking in to the issue.

Vivek

Hello @Vivek Achar,

Thanks for the update. With the MSL6480 you have the option to change the robotic to use a different device if drive #1 is no longer working. This can be configured in the partitioning wizard. Ask the storage team about it.

Hi,

There was FC connection issues with the said server. Now the library is detected in the server and getting proper devbra output too.

But Configuring device through DP GUI was still showing the same error. No device found.

Thanks to Sebastian, as he suggested in the earlier comments, Configured the Device manually using the path from Devbra output. The device is working properly now.

Vivek
