Seeding initial backup for Automated System Recovery (ASR)

HI,

We are running Micro FOcus Data Protector with ASR between 2 sites, and it works well, We now want to include a new application, but the data for this application is over 5TB. To do the initial ASR data copy over the intersite link takes too long, and the link is too slow.

Is it possible to transfer the initial data say via a tape media, and import on the recipient side, and then establish the ASR so that only the data that has changed is then replicated across the link ?

Kind regards

Andrew

Re: Seeding initial backup for Automated System Recovery (ASR)

Hi @A.W.R,

To do this you should:

  1. Take a backup to tape or duplicate an existing backup to tape in the primary cell
  2. Perform a Copy to MCF from tape media you want to ship. If you're using encrypted tape, make sure to export and transfer the encryption key for the media (omnikeytool).
  3. Import the MCF into the destination cell
  4. Perform an Object Copy from tape to the StoreOnce store that is used as the ARS target in the secondary cell.
