Re: Tape laibary

Hello @sumananim

Yes you can. The tape includes the format and header to be readable. So you can mount the tape in the standalone device and scan the tape, it will be recognized because it still resides in the IDB.

Re: Tape laibary

Hello @sumananim,

If the drive is compatible then you can use a standalone tape drive to read data created by a tape library. The tape library only handles the automation part. So with the standalone drive the operator is responsible to load/unload the required tape into the drive. What tape drives are used in the MSL and what is the standalone drive? What media is used?

Re: Tape laibary

Hello @sumananim,

Data Protector is using its own data format (OB2) on the backup media. CommVault is not able to read it (same way Data Protector us unable to read CommVaults data format). The best option is to keep Data Protector (limited scale) and the backup device/media if you have long time retention requirements.

Migration means you have to restore data with Data Protector and back it up using CommVault afterwards which is time consuming and error prone.
