Timeout waiting for devices to get free - HP dataprotector v6.1

Jump to solution

Hi,
I was wondering if someone can help. I am getting errors on some of our backup jobs. The errors are below. I had already changed the queueing time to 180 minutes in the global config file some time ago but for whatever reason it looks like it's failing after waiting only 1 hour.

Thanks.

The key here is this message:
Not enough licenses
"Tape drive for SAN / all platforms".

Data Protector licenses tape drives. You either don't have the licenses installed, or you don't have enough licenses installed for the number and type of drives you have.

In Data Protector GUI, open Help from the menu, and you'll see the list of licenses. You need to have a cell manager for the correct platform (either all, or Win/Linux), and you need to have tape drives licensed. If your tape drives are direct-attache under Windows, Linux or Netware, then you need that license. Otherwise, you need the "Tape drive for SAN / all platforms" for SAN or Unix drives.

The number of available licenses will be in the "number" column, and this should match the number of tape drives you have.

If you have the licenses and never entered them, from the drop-down context menu, select "clients". Then from the top menu, select Edit -> Add -> License. Enter your license keys here.

Ok thank you for your response, I have 6 drives however the "Help - About" menu tells me I only have licenses for 4 drives. This should say 6, correct?

Thanks..

Correct. With four drives licensed, you can do no more than four simultaneous tape operations.

We are using DP 6.11

I recently relocated 2 drives in my MSL8096 from one media server to another. Therefore, only 1 media server is controlling all 4 drives. However, I can not get LTT to update the firmware on drive 3 & 4 as it indicates the drives are locked. I have rebooted the library, the media servers, even the cell manager.

I try to kick off a job to one of the two drives and it indicates:

[Warning] From: BSM@cmcc.hcbocc.ad "SP_LIB1_Dr4_Test" Time: 06/07/2011 12:01:30 PM

[61:2013] Some of the backup devices are occupied. Session is waiting

for all the devices to get free.

However, there are NO other jobs utilizing this drive. The lock name on these drives are unique as well. This is not a time out setting becuase there are no resource contingenicies. What do you think the issue may be?

I even tried to run a DP CLI command to free locked resources, etc. Is there some other worth wild DP command to resolve this issue? Any thoughts would be great!

Thanks in advance....Scott

Hi,

I have a similar problem but I have same number of tape drives and licenses.

The "omnidb -session <ID> -report" shows this:

server1:/# /opt/omni/bin/omnidb -session 2012/05/21-6 -report

I have only one license "Tape drive for SAN / all platforms" and I have only a Tape drive (HP: MSL-G3) installed, so

Why does this warning appears?

What can I do?

Thanks

Have a nice day.
