Upgrade DP 8

Jump to solution

Hi, I need help.

Upgrade DP 6.10 to DP 8 is not possible.

Is there any supported procedure to export old IDB and import in new IDB 8 ?

TIA and best regards

Jose

This is going to have to be done in 2 steps, to upgrade to DP 6.21, or DP 7.x, then, upgrade to 8.1, since there is no direct upgrade path from 6.10 to 8.x

Also, check the Platform Support Matrix for DP 8

http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM00453104

to be sure that teh platform that you are plannig up upgrading is supported with DP 8

Thanks Bob for your reply.

But I do not want to do 2 steps.

What I want to do is export old IDB and import it in new IDB 8. Is that possilble ?

Is it supported ?

No and No

DP 8 makes use of a new Internal Database type, that runs on postreSQL.  It is not compatable with the old IDB unless it is migrated

I suggest that you upgrade to DP 7, and make sure that it is stable, before you consider upgrading to DP 8, which is having plenty of issues

i would also suggest update to 7.0 and then install patch 7.03. it runs stable.

then wait until 8.1.1 is going to be released... hopefully most of the issues with 8.1 are fixed then...

Chapter 4

Please prepare both the upgrade to DP 7 and DP 8 in a manner that you will assume the upgrade will fain, and that you will beed to go back to the previous version by saving your Configuration files

UNIX:

    /etc/opt/omni/server

Windows 2003

Program Files -> Omniback -> Config -> Server

Windows 2008

Program Data -> Omniback -> Config -> Server

and stopping Data Protector, and saving a copy of the IDB

UNIX

    /var/opt/omni/server/db40

Windows 2003

    Program Files -> Omniback -> db40

Windows 2008

    Program Data -> Omniback -> db40

Re: Upgrade DP 8

Thanks Bob.

Data Protector is in  a hpux 11.31 MC/SG cluster. So I have to upgrade each of the nodes, then import the virtual server, correct ? The package must be down ?

What version of DP 8 should I install ? 8, 8.1 ...

What are the issues when upgrading DP 7 to DP 8 ?

Best Regards

Jose

Yes

I highly recommend against installing DP 8.1, and recomend 8.0 only if you immediately install patch bundle 8.01

Therer were lots of issues with the IDB found during the upgrade.  These have mostly been fixed with the 8.01 patch, but, I don't think that they are totally fixed yet

Why not 8.1?  The latest patch for DP is 8.13.  I was going to upgrade from 7 to 8 then patch to 8.13.  Bad idea? Good idea?

Re: Upgrade DP 8

OK idea.  8.13 fixes a lot of the problems that were encountered with DP 8 and 8.1

DP 8.1 introduced a new licensing scheme, and requires users to get a new set of licenses

I am actually recommending that users skip over 8, go directly to DP 9 and install patch bundle 9.02
