Hi,

Is it possible we can install VEAgent (Virtual Environment Integration Agent) on VMWare ESXI  6.7 ? since we need to configure esxi host as the backup host for VM backup..

Hello @MurtuzaS,

As mentioned the integration can be installed on a Windows or Linux VM or (external) physical host to the ESXi. ESXi does not support installation of data protection agents.

However, we would like know that can we install VEAgent on ESXI standalone server (physical machine) ?

There is something I want to add here. Please note that Data Protector, similar to all other backup ISVs, is using VMware VDDK to protect VMs. This is a licensed feature. So if the ESXi standalone server is ESXi free the VEPA (VEAgent integration) is not working. You need to have at least an ESXi Standard license on the ESXI host to use the integration. Is this the case?

Hello @MurtuzaS,

The VEAgent must be installed on a supported Windows or Linux client. This can be a physical machine or VM (preferred to run on the cluster/host you want to backup).

According to the documentation the virtual environment integration can be installed in these servers:
--> A virtual machine
--> The vCenter Server system
--> The Data ProtectorCell Manager
--> A dedicated physical backup system
https://docs.microfocus.com/itom/Data_Protector:2019.05/VMwareIntegration

But if your ESXi have a OS that is supported as backup host you can install it.
