Re: cann't take VM backup using DP 10.2

Hello

Is almost impossible to determine root of issue just with error message, it can be for a lot of different issues.

Do you have the issue just with this VM or whatever you try to backup?

Have you checked if this VM has nay special hardware configuration? What is the disk type?

Im pretty sure that you will need to reproduce issue in debug mode, then looking debugs you will be able to determine root of issue.

Re: cann't take VM backup using DP 10.2

Hi

Another file system backup is ok. Only issue with VM backup. Here VM disk is SAN disk.

I have checked from that ctkenabled is set TRUE.

So what should we check now.

Re: cann't take VM backup using DP 10.2

Hello

Filesystem backup is totally different, do you the same issue for all VM's or just this one?

I guess that best action plan is create new backup and include just this VM, reproduce issue in debug mode 1-500 and provide debugs to support for check it.

Best Regards

Mention that here testvm.obl.com is a vm which is used for as backup host for virtual environment backup.

I have also run another VM backup which is under  another ESXi  but same error.

Re: cann't take VM backup using DP 10.2

VM (testv,obl.com)  containing the virtual environment integration agent  and used as backup host for VM .

Already taken one VM successfully using this backup host.  Here there is no physical server containing Linux OS 7.3 or above  for virtual environment integration agent install. For this reason , I have used VM linux (OS:7.3)containing  containing agent.

So please suggest what should I do now.

Re: cann't take VM backup using DP 10.2

In the manual, cell interacts with the vCenter Server system for the duration of the session backup. Backup host is not mentioned.

Re: cann't take VM backup using DP 10.2

Check your firewall and rule that out first.

In my experience "Could not backup disk scsix:x" is generally a firewall issue caused because the ESXi data stores have not been presented to the DP Backup Host to enable transport mode SAN *and* TCP_902 is not open between the ESXi hosts and the DP Backup Host

You need to have

  • TCP_443 open between VC and DP Cell Manager (so you can import the VC into the cell)
  • TCP_443 and TCP_902 open between the VC and DP Backup Host (this is the DP client with Virtual Environment agent installed)
  • TCP_902 open between the DP Backup Host and ALL ESXi hosts that can host any VM you want to back up (even if you are using transport mode SAN for the backups as any diff restore will use transport mode NBD)

Once you've checked that if it still isn't working you should raise vixDiskLib.transport.LogLevel to 6 in vepa_vddk.config then run the backup in debug mode and check the VEPALIB_VMWARE_EXECUTION_THREAD debug log

regards,
jenni
