changer library L180 seen on HPUX not seen on Solaris???

In order to see the changer on HPUX, I found a recommendtation to cd /dev/rscsi and /usr/sbin/mknod c5t0d0 c 203 0x050000
Added the library to HP DP6.0 using the /dev/rscsi/c5t0d0 and all works fine.
Not so on Solaris 10,
* unable to see the changer on Solaris by default
* unsuccessful attempting to use a similar mknod on /dev/scsi/changer, /dev/rscsi/changer or /dev/rmt.

The device is supported in scsitab

What am a missing???

Thanks, ...Jim

made a device for it that HP DP 6.0 does not use?

sun-2:/ # ls -l /dev/scsi/changer

Re: changer library L180 seen on HPUX not seen on Solaris???

We are a Virtual Tape Drive, emulation the STK L180, but HP DP likes the emulation (on Windows and HPUX)

I think I am missing the name of the device used for the media libaray by HP Data Protector on Solaris...

something maybe like
/dev/rscsi/changer/c2t0d0, and the mknod parm for making the device
tried the mknod that worked on HPUX but did not work
>> device /dev/rscsi/c5t0d5 as follows:
>> # cd /dev/rscsi
>> # /usr/sbin/mknod c5t0d0 c 203 0x050000

maybe having issued with the major and minor node

???

Thanks,

...Jim

Re: changer library L180 seen on HPUX not seen on Solaris???

Hi,

you have to use the sst driver which is included by the media agent of data protector.
Its described in the manual of installing DP clients on the net.

If you have problems, that solaris binds the robotic to the sgen driver (default), then you have first to "rem_drv sgen". After this, use "add_drv sst" and the last thing is the symbolic link from the sst character device (/devices/...) to /dev/rsst[0-9].
From this point, using "devbra -dev" will show you your robotics...

Re: changer library L180 seen on HPUX not seen on Solaris???

Hello Ulrich

Thank you for the answer.

In fact I already use the sst driver and the
robotic-arm move correctly.
My problem now is that the 2 LTO are fiber attached to a PCI-Fiber card on the sun and I can see them but when I try to acces them with mt or tar I get a I/O error

I think there is a special daemon to run for converting Fiber to Scsi ; isn't it ?

(I can't find the way to assign point to your answer ; I guess it's because I'm not the question originator)
What could I say ?
