hp-ux and DP

Jump to solution
Hi,
I have an issue with hp-ux and data protector, the DP client(hp-ux system) is not listening on port 5555. I re-installed the DP software many times, but we still have the issue.
The output on a client machine:
netstat -an | grep 5555 -> emplty
how can we fix this issue, is there any methods to add DP services on hp-ux machine.
thanks for your reply.

As usual, showing an actual command with its
actual output can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

See above. What, exactly, does "no reply"
mean here? What, exactly, did you do? What,
exactly, happened when you did it?

Must be 4 years now since I touched Data Protector... still IIRC there should be an entry in /etc/inetd.conf for DP....

Does:

grep omni /etc/inetd.conf

turn up anything?

I assume you did the "telnet test" from remote. Does it work locally? Maybe you have a problem with a firewall between ...

Hope this helps!

Hi:

Run the omnicheck command to verify the DNS connections in the Data Protector cell using the following options:

# omnicheck -dns -host client_name -verbose

# man omnicheck

Check the system's log files on UNIX and setup log files on Windows to determine the problem:

System Log file
UNIX (local installation) /var/adm/sw/swinstall.log

/var/adm/sw/swagent.log

UNIX (remote installation) /var/opt/omni/log/IS_install.log

u are saying port is open and telnet 5555 hostname is empty

so u have to check all dp services are running or not
omnisv -status

please check if any of dp services is not running please start it again, and revert it back.

I Assume

two reasons

one is dp services is not running properly

second is dp is not installed in u client side

can u check from other client to cell manager
it is pinging or not
please revert back!!!

Dear bitou

-Login to cell mgr and u can delete the client from the cell manager, Now when you delete a pop-up menu will ask whether you want to unsinstall/remove the client Sw.

otherwise
u can login in to hp-ux client and remove from there by using swremove command

and remove the remaining directories using the rm command, once u removed all

please install dp again.

thanks and regards

I'd rather have an answer than the points.

And why is that?

Your conclusions, while interesting, are not
so useful as some actual evidence.

Still wondering...
