Does anyone know when vStorage API for Data Protection will be available for HP Data Protector 6.11?

Thanks,

The DP 6.11 vStorage agent is released and is available with a DPWIN_00483.

DPWIN_00483 - windows xp OV DP6.11 Windows - VEPA Consolidated Packet.

There is a WP that explains all details how to install and how to use.

Now if only the whitepaper was actually on the website. Though the patch text entry that tells you about the whitepaper is currently 404 as well, so I guess the missing whitepaper won't be missed yet. /sigh

Thanks,

This integration works great. But by default it backups up the whole VM disk.
In the Whitepaper (it is available already) it is being said:

You can back up the following VMware object:
Virtual machines
Virtual machine disks
Virtual machine templates
However, you can make your selections at different levels:
ESX/ESXi servers
Pools
vApps
VM folders
Individual VMs
VM disks
VM templates

So how to actually be able to backup VM folders? I can't get it 🙂

A "VM folder" is a structure in vCenter server that groups multiple VMs. It is *not* a file system folder(directory) on a NTFS or ext2/ext3 filesystem inside a VM.

Ok. thanks

So no way to backup just the 10Gb used space of 100 Gb VMDK ?

The WP says:
Thick and thin disks: Data Protector is not able to detect whether virtual machine disks are thick or thin. In both cases, complete disks are backed up (that is, the complete space allocated at a diskâ s creation time is backed up, even if the space is still empty)

How about the next "vStorage File" integration? When will it be released?

vStorage APIs has been released 2 years ago already..
