Restart Debugging on Collector

Hi,
I am using Sentinel 8.1 and want to develop a new Collector Plugin. Thinks went fine so far. I have created a dump which I can use for debugging purposes. When I stop my collector and click "debug" a new window opens. If I first click on the blue "play" button the main script is loaded and I am able to set breakpoints. Then clicking the blue play button again makes the debugger starting and stopping on the breakpoints.

When I create a new Development Build of my Collector Plugin and I want to upload it to Sentinel I do the following:

  1. Stop debugging
  2. Upload new Plugin and Update existing installed Plugin
  3. Clicking "Debug" in the context menu of the Collector

After the 3rd action the debugger windows opens as described prior. But when I now click on the blue play button it directly starts the debugger without opening the main script. So I am unable to set any breakpoints.

    What am I doing wrong?

    regards

Re: Restart Debugging on Collector

Two things:

1. It sounds like you are doing development in, and therefore using the
debugger in, Event Source Management (ESM) itself. I have not used the
"Upload" feature in there much, but since it is part of Sentinel I would
probably recommend posting this in the Sentinel product forum as well.

2. Before you do that, the SDK has a debugger of its own, and in many
ways it is better developing in the SDK than in the product itself. All
you need is that connector dump, and you can rebuild plugins when making
changes in just a few seconds, and you get a full restart each time. Of
course, setting breakpoints over and over is a bit annoying, but overall I
think developing is much faster in Eclipse with the SDK.

See this great post by Aaron on how to use the debugger in the SDK:

Re: Restart Debugging on Collector

Hi,
thank you both.

After reading "right-click on ‘2011.1’ and choose to ‘Debug’" I felt something was wrong... I was using SDK 2011.1 as linked by "Sentinel Plug-in Software Development Kit" on the Sentinel Plugin download page.

Now, after installing 2014, I am seeing the Debug option. I will explore it soon 🙂

Thanks again!
