Error occurs when trying to start daemon and it exits

This article explains what to do if trying to start the daemon and an error occurs causing it to exit.

Problem:

When the daemon is started from the Enterprise View host menu, it fails with the following error:

Starting daemon 1 ...

OCI_ERROR: sqlrc=-1

Cannot open database repository.

Daemon exited because of error.

Resolution:

To resolve this, do the following:
  1. Make sure that the Oracle Client configuration on the UNIX machine is correct.
  2. Test the connection to Oracle with the sqlplus tool. Typing the following on the command line should result in a successful connection - replace ORCL with the appropriate Oracle service name, and USERNAME and PASSWORD with the actual username and password used to connect to the Oracle schema which hosts the Enterprise View repository:

    sqlplus USERNAME/PASSWORD@ORCL

  3. If the connection test fails, please contact the Administrator of the system so that they can resolve the issue.
