[archive] Acurcl problem while contact clients

[Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 11 February 2004]

Dear Sir/Adam,
We have a problem with acurcl when we attempt to connect with acuthin from win 2k clients.

Host Machine: HP ML 350 Proliant with one CPU
Host Op.Sys. SCO Openserver 5,0,5
acucobol version : Extent 6,0
Client : win 2000, win 98 win xp
Problem: when we attempt to connect host by acuthin generally it is successful. But only approximately %3 of attempts will not connect. At this time other connections which connect before work properly. But After this time no other connection can be establish. at host side acurcl -info does not response. After we kill acuthin.exe that can not start from task manager at client the acurcl work properly at host and other connections established successfully.

Note: we make our host a PC which don?t have multiprocessor, SCSI cards etc.. This problem never occurs.

RE: [archive] Acurcl problem while contact clients

This sounds like a race condition with the negotiation between acuthin and acurcl, so that each is waiting for the other to send information (and so they hang each other). When you kill the hanging acuthin, acurcl notices that the socket connection has been closed, and so stops waiting for something and goes back into its "wait for connections" loop.

We have fixed some problems like this in later versions, but may not have fixed this particular error. You should contact your tech support representative and work with him/her about getting the problem to reproduce consistently. In that way we can determine whether the problem has been solved already, and if not we can work on solving it.
