The owner of this desktop needs an intervention.  Someone needs to let him or her know that there is a better way to manage file access and sharing.

At Novell, we know that providing users access to the files they need has to be easy. Sharing those files should also be simple and secure to enhance productivity and keep you (IT) in control of what files are shared and with whom. Filr enhances  these abilities and more with the new Desktop 1.0.2 client, available now.

We’ve worked hard on both the Windows and Mac clients, so users can expect to see these improvements to the Filr desktop client:

  • Event-driven file synchronization simplifies the sync process. Only the files changed since your last login will sync, meaning that your files will finish updating sooner, and will use less of your computer’s horsepower.

  • Built-in dialogs that simplify collaboration and data sharing. Rather than opening up a web browser each time you want to share a file or opening a file to comment on it, you can now simply right-click on the file and do this from your desktop.

  • Simple file properties summary that doesn’t just let you see when a file was last modified. From the File Properties, you can also see who the file is shared with, who created a file and who modified it. In addition, if you don’t see someone on the list of people the file is shared with, you can easily add them from the same place.

  • Sharing policies that simplify the Administrator’s job.  Save yourself time by pre-populating the Filr server and user account information and pre-selecting which folders users have access to.  Users are ready to go at first login and you have time to grab that next cup of coffee.

Whether you’re a Filr veteran or just learning the ropes, these improvements will enhance the file sharing and collaboration capabilities for you and your users. Small businesses and multinational corporations alike can all benefit from having a little more control in their file-sharing system.
