Deleting Folders and Files

I have found that when I use the web console, I'm not able to delete files or folders. Has anyone else seen this?

As long as you have rights you should be able to do this. Just keep in
mind that outside of personal storage (stored on the appliance) the
option is called purge and not delete.

Re: Deleting Folders and Files

Joe,
We are not using personal storage so everything is on the servers. With that being said I'm using Novell's documentation to create some training slides and the document says
Select the check box next to the folder that you want to delete, then click Delete.
or
If you are in the folder that you want to delete, click the Configure icon next to the folder name, then click Delete Folder.
Needless to say first one isn't there at all. So I'm assuming with out testing yet but I will, that if you want to delete the file you put the check mark next to the file, then click on more and select purge to delete the file. If I want to delete the folder you go into the folder then go to the configure button and select purge folder.

Then according to the system when you purge it it can't be restored, but the option to delete is not there where you can restore or undelete.

A few things.

- Please post the link to the doc section you're looking at that
references a delete button. I want to take a look to see if I need to
contact the doc writers to fix that.

- The purge option will work for folders as well as files so at least
you have a single way of deleting both types of content.

- If the backend is NW/OES using NSS, doing a purge should just do a
normal delete meaning you could use salvage from a Windows desktop with
the Novell Client installed to restore the content deleted from Filr.
I just verified that this did indeed work in my environment where my
home directory is on an NSS volume hosted by OES2 SP3. However, the
docs are correct in that you can't use Filr to restore any files or
folders that have been purged via Filr.

Re: Deleting Folders and Files

Joe,
I'll put the links at the end of the post. I told Karyn about it yesterday also and her thought was the Delete/Restore option was for personal storage, but if your using MY Files on an NSS volume (as you said) then there is only a purge. I also tested the salvage option and it did not work, but I was having issues with my Filr system yesterday with the root filling up to 100%. We have since resolved that but that should not affect the purge/delete on my home folder. Here are the links.
