Home Folder slow update

When I copy the file to network folder with my home folder.
In the Filr Netfolders is updated fast, but I can't see the file in my home folder on Filr.
That is same folder but why not same time to update?
Please help to tech me how to setup that, Thanks.

Theo,
Sorry, but I'm not following you. Can you please explain again what
you are doing? At this point, the only suggestion I have is to make
sure your sync settings are the same across net folder servers.

I *think* what the OP is saying is something like this:

Scenario:
Workstation has mapped drive to Home folder (Windows/OES).
Workstation has other mapped network drives.

Using Windows Explorer, copy a file to Home folder.
File "shows up" right away in windows Explorer.

Now, open the Filr Web Interface and look at Home Folder. File is absent.

Assuming this is the case, I'd suspect that JITS isn't enabled and user is relying upon scheduled sync.

Ok. I thought maybe files were appearing immediately in Net Folders,
but not in My Files. Which is why I suggested verifying all settings
on Net Folder Servers.

Most definitely. I think the JITS can be set on the server definition as well as the "folder" definition. And if they're different servers (Windows/OES) ....

Or so I'm hoping that's the culprit, as it's the most obvious (to me) cause of that.

Re: Home Folder slow update

The case is if I copy the file to my home folder eg: f:\user\theo
In the Filr home folder is absent, if I goto the Net Folder in Filr path user\theo is can see the file.
So, that is mean the JITS setting problem?
If yes, how can I change all home folder setting to correct?

Thanks/Theo

Hello.

Assuming the issue is JITS:

For Home Folders, the Filr Gui doesn't have a NetFolder.
Rather, it has a NetFolder SERVER.

(I'm on Filr 2.x, so I don't think the interface changed that much in 3.x):

Login to the Filr Web interface (not the :9443 one, the other one) as an administrative user. Select Administration Console on the upper right-hand corner.
On the left-hand side, select NetFolder SERVERS.
On the right-hand side you should see a server that corresponds to where you have your home folders located.

Click that server name.

On the 4th tab: Synchornization Options
There should be a checkbox for Enabling of JITS.

https://www.novell.com/documentation/filr-3/filr-admin/data/netfolders_global.html

(there's a link in the docs there to explain about JITS and things)

Note that in Filr 3, there's a global option for JITS ( don't know if it's in 2.x)

I'm already enable JITS option.
The problem is the home folder and the net folder is same location same folder.
But the home folder is not real time update, the net folder is updated.
So, how to set the home folder also real time update like the net folder?

Thanks/Theo

Wait, so you have a netfolder created that's the same as the Home Folder?
Why? Do you have users home folders in the same path as say, regular data? ie:
\\server1\volume\home\userfolders
\\server1\volume\home\HR
\\server1\volume\home\Accounting

???

If the Net Folder SERVER entry has JITS enabled, then I don't know why the Home Folders aren't updating, unless possibly the entry for the Net Folder in the Admin Console is set to NOT enable JITS and override the Server settings.

But if they are the same, you'll probably have to open an SR and enable debug logging.

Home Folder settings are only controlled via the Net Folder SERVER entry that's created automatically, assuming of course, that your home directory attribute is filled out i eDir or AD properly. When the LDAP import runs, Filr does not create a Net Folder FOLDER. Nor do you need one (for home directories). It creates a Net Folder SERVER object and then you have to configure that and it basically happens automatically when the users login, that the "my files" allows for Home Directory use.

Unless Ken has any other ideas, but the only time I've ever run across something like that is when I forgot to enable JITS on the Net Folder server for the Home Directories.

Not sure why there would be a NetFolder and HomeFolder pointing to the
same locations. Seems redundant and unnecessary. Maybe that is
causing some confusion within the system?

Because we are only have one server to share it:
\\server1\volume\user\hr\userfolder <-home folder
\\server1\volume\user <-Netfolder

if I copy the file to home folder, will be fast to show on the Netfolder, but will be show on home folder after few hours.
So, I think have some setting can change the home folder Synchornization time.

And we are use Filr ADV 3.2.1 , OES2015

I assume you have a reason for this, but it appears that you are
serving up the same information twice. Seems like that is doubling
the workload on the Filr server.

I have a single server doing the following:
\\server1\volume1\userfolder <-- displayed as a Filr home folder
\\server1\volume2\projects <-- displayed as a NetFolder

All I can say is compare all the sync settings (scheduled and JITS)
between the two. There must be something different about them.

I agree, it's probably getting confused with the "home folder" being part of the published Net Folder. Sounds like the OP has their home directories under the organization level (HR, ACCT, etc.) rather than all in one spot.

So he'll only have one NetFolder *Server* and one NetFolder *Folder*, so he'll have to check the settings. I'd probably say/suggest in this case to enable the JITS on the *server* object and then not mess with the Folder setting (I think there's a checkbox or something that says to use the SERVER settings).

IF that doesn't work, he'll probably have to enable debug logging and open an SR.
