Error in ASP.NET Precompilation
My team is having an issue scanning our C# code in Visual Studio using Fortify 360 using version 4.30. Although there is no ASP in the projects we are attempting to scan, we get an issue that says: "Error performing ASP.NET Precompilation". It then says "Scan Failed: Object reference not set to an instance of an object". We have been troubleshooting this for some time and have attempted every possible solution we have found online and using the resources we have at our disposal. We have also tried running this using Fortify version 4.21, through the command prompt, and through the audit workbench. This issue occurs in about a third of our solutions and it is critical that we resolve this as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for whatever help you can offer.
Anything significant you can tell us between the 1/3 of your apps (of which the error occurs ) and the other 2/3 applications? (library usage, custom functionality, versioning etc...)
We have a very similar issue. Here is what we found, The precompile is picking up projects that are structurally under the solution main folder even though they are not part of the solution. There are no references to those projects in the solution but they are still being precompiled. The only way we have found around this is to delete the unwanted project directory from the folder structure. This is not a very elegant solution and we are researching other avenues to get around this issue but it was the quick and dirty that works. (So it will probably be there for years)
