Errors "Scan Initialization Failed"
ISSUE:
You attempt to run an assessment and receive the following
error:
"Unable to load SecureBase"
You are not using Remote Desktop Protocol or Terminal Services to
run the SPI product (if you are using RDP or Terminal Services, see
solution 1463).
In DevInspect®, you may also go to Tools > Options and find that opening any property page yields the following error:
"An error occurred loading this property page"
In WebInspect™, you may receive the following error:
"Scan Initialization Failed"
CAUSE:
A permission issue with SQL Server may be preventing a connection to the SecureBase™ database.
SOLUTION:
Ensure your database account has sufficient admin privileges with the following steps.
1. Go to Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.
2. If the "Add New Administrator" option is available, click it and
add the SQLEXPRESS member by clicking on the ">" arrow and click OK.
3. Verify that your user has been added to the administrator group
by opening SQL Server Management Studio Express (which you may need to
download from Microsoft).
a. In SQL Server Management Studio Express, connect to your database.
b. Go to Security > Server Roles > sysadmin
c. Double-click on sysadmin if you have not already opened it, and verify that your user is listed in the Role Members list.
4. Delete the following directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\%CURRENTUSER%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS\
Note: Errors that the folder or file cannot be deleted may indicate
that you ned to exit SQL Express studio, the SPI Dynamics product,
close the SPI Monitor in the System Tray, Stop the SQL Server
(SQLEXPRESS) service, or that you need to kill the process
"sqlserver.exe".
5. Re-run your assessment.
