Jump to solution

When Using the Web Proxy tool, after starting the proxywhen I try to alunch the browser, using the launch Browser" icon in the proxy tool I get a web proxy error "unable to lauch browser due to:  ProcessConnect: not specified.  DCOM: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxxx} failed due to the following error 8080005.  See attached for screenshot.   It has worked correctly in the past.

Re: Web Proxy Fails to launch IE Browser

I was using the Proxy tool to capture a web session of the target device.  The initial url was http://<ip addres>, which web session redirects to HTTPS.

DCOM has not been disabled.

The alternate browser did not work

I am not running any protective systems.

The system ran fine a week ago when I did this on  a previoys test.

I was able to resolve the issue by uninstalling IE, rebooting, and then reinstalling it.

Is this opening a Manual Scan against a site using HTTPS?  You may be running into a certificate issue recently introduced by Microsoft patch KB2661254 or KB2661254-v2 (http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/WebInspect/Manual-scan-cannot-reach-https-environment/td-p/5845527).

Has DCOM been disabled in Group Policy or elsewhere?

Are you still able to launch an alternative browser and capture what you need through the displayed proxy listening port (shown in lower left-hand corner)?

Are you running a protective system, such as McAfee HIPS, that may be identifying this action as being suspicious?  WebInspect is spawning a browser and hooking into it a separate proxy after all.  I know if the past McAfee had a Buffer Overrun protection feature which would hamper Web Proxy and would need to be disabled temporarily if not completely.
