GW and MAPI / Sending Emails API

Hi,

I need to send emails via an Application (written in Delphi 5) - we have clients who use GroupWise. The method to send emails is via MAPI and it would call up the MAPI32.dll and use the MapiSendMail() function.

These might sound quite simple questions, but here goes:

1. Are all GroupWise installations MAPI compliant ?

2. If not, can they be made compatible with MAPI so that Emails can be sent via other applications ?

3. Is there a utility that can make GoupWise MAPI compliant ?

Thanks for any help...

In theory it's MAPI compliant. In practice using native Object API
(which is also COM compliant and tremndously easy to do in Delphi) is
faster, more efficient, and far more reliable.

Is there any reason (other than lack of knowledge) you wish to use MAPI?

Thanks for reply. Your comment

"In theory it's MAPI compliant"

makes me somewhat nervous.
We use MAPI as it is a standard unit in the Delphi development kit and most of our customers use OutLook. However we have about a dozen customers who are on GroupWise. From what I can understand if I was to use COM I would import the GroupWise Type Library into Delphi. However I also understand that I would need to purchase a complete installation of GroupWise in order to utilise this method. Is there any other way ? All suggestions welcome..

Thanks

No, you'd download an eval copy. Those are free, and you can make 3
userss for testing.

I'm sorry, officially gw is mapi compliannt but as a developer I'm
telling you - it usually works poorly and breaks easily.

Good news that we can use the eval copy. Thank you very much for the information.

Re: GW and MAPI / Sending Emails API

And to add to Mike.....

Don't import the typelibrary, since it'll not work with Delphi 😞

Instead, use late binding, and the PDF is your friend here
