getItem + view

When doing a 'getItemRequest()' I pass the id of an attached/embedded message as the
id and try to limit the returned date - I would just need the 'size' element, but
whatever I try to set as 'view', GW returns ALL elements, even attachments and
recipients?

I'm using the latest GW8 WSDL, but define '1.01' as version on login; using 7.0.3
(976)
I saw in the docs, that something changed with the <view> (GW 7 - "types:View" /
GW8 - "string"); but I do yet specify the view as single string?

Did I miss something?

Markus

Re: getItem + view

Sorry, I'm not sure I follow what you are asking.

It all depends on what your application is sending
in the SOAP request. The view element value needs to
be a space delimited string of view keywords. It
sounds like you are not getting a view element into
the SOAP request or the view element is empty.

I was able to put "size" in the view in 7.0.x and 8.0.x
and get back the size element.

What is in your SOAP trace?

Thanks.

Re: getItem + view

Well, I rechecked the trace (see attached) - the <view> is inside with the request
with value 'size', but as you can see I get back ALL elements...
I'm a bit confused now...

Re: getItem + view

I was able to reproduce the problem.
I've created a bug to track the problem.
Right now there is no workaround.

Re: getItem + view

So how did you get the <size> element in yr trace as you stated in yr initial
response?
Is it possible to get it only in conjunction with other view elements?

The performance will suffer and the poa load will dramatically increase, if gw
returns all elements when asking for the size of each message attachment!? - We might
have thousands of calls when reading those values.... the server will sweat and
gigabit wire will glow ;-))

Re: getItem + view

Sorry, I just tested the regular getItemRequest before.
I have separate getItemRequest logic for embedded items.
That logic would return everything (it wouldn't
check the view element).

Re: getItem + view

Ok, thanks that explains my confusion as it's definitely not the first time I called
'getItem()' with a view defined...
I suppose that will only be fixed for gw8?

Re: getItem + view

Hi Preston,

do you think there is any chance to get that fixed in 7.0.3 HP3?
Would really take off a lot of server load.....

Re: getItem + view

It will not be possible to port the fix to 7.0.3 HP3 or
8.0.0 HP2. It will only go into 8.0.1.
