Build it keeping in mind emulation on Linux, if done well it may well cover the needs for a Linux client. I see Android being where Windows was back in 1990/1991 in starting its huge rise towards dominating the industry, so please don't miss this opportunity.
An android client taking direct to groupwise implementing all the features of groupwise is needed. There are so many different android versions out there You cannot guarantee that the activesync client
on the device will work correctly. Of course you could tell your users to use activesync in gmail or install one you know works - perhaps outlook - but what does that do for groupwise? When users start asking why they can use outlook on their phones but not their PCs.
