I will actually be doing an upgrade from Grp 6.5 /novell box.

Yes.

Yes, but it doesn't make much sense. A Groupwise Server should by all
means *only* be a Groupwise Server, with no other applications running
on it. And as GW is a 32 bit application, it doesn't benefit in any way
from a 64bit OS, in fact, even the opposite.

Re: 64 bit question

Not to mention running on a Windows 2003 Server ...

We did -- it works fine, and it does make sense. 🙂 We are running
OES2SP2 which supports 32 bit code just fine... while simultaneously
running 64 bit code. As far as I know Windows Server 2003 will support
32 and 64 bit code.

We are using an AMD 64 bit Quad Core processor on an ASUS M3A78-T
motherboard -- 8GB memory, 2TB RAID array running NSS for data storage.

So far we have been unable to stress the board while running file
sharing, Database (IB2007) and GW8 on the system. That is as it should be.

Re: 64 bit question

I also had the intention to run GroupWise on a 64-bit SLES platform with the idea to have the base platform more future-proof and perhaps achieve improved performance by enabling complementary applications (such as backup or web apps) address 4GB+ memory.

What made me revert back to the 32-bit SLES architecture was the fact that GroupWise running on a 64-bit SLES cannot be monitored via SNMP. The 64-bit implementation of Net-SNMP does not support libgwsnmp.so, which currently only exists in 32-bit (confirmed by Novell support).

Hope this information will help someone.

All right here is my situation, I have XEN 64 bit running so as to use the 8 GB memory, instead of the base 4 GB for 32 Bit, I want to use GW 8, so from what your saying it should work with a 64 Bit OS? Anything else beyond the Net-SNMP that does not work with the 64 Bit version?

Re: 64 bit question

I did install GroupWise on 64 bit SLES and got bit by this. Do you think it would be possible to build a 32 bit version of net-snmp from source and have it work in this setup?
