[9520] Server Memory is too low

Getting an error on our login page every once in awhile where it says [9520] Server memory is too low. New login requests are not allowed. Please contact your system Administrator. We added more ram to the VM running the server. I couldn't see anything about recommended ram settings unless I am missing something. We have GWIA, MTA and Webmail all running on the same box with 6GB of ram. Anybody have any recommendations?

Thanks,
Nathan

Update: Restarting tomcat seems to help for some time.

Section 4.1 Hardware and Operating System Requirements in the GW2014
Install Guide[1] includes

--begin--
Adequate server memory as required by the operating system

Depending on the anticipated load on the GroupWise agents, additional
memory might be required. For details, see Section 4.6, Sample Agent
Memory Requirements[2].
---end---

Section 4.6 lists 4GB under recommended memory for best performance of
GWIA and its MTA with 4GB for WebAccess application. Given those two
added together equal 8GB and you're running on virtual machine I'd
suggest that you might want to increase the amount of memory available
to the VM.

Which OS is the server running and which virtualisation platform are you
hosting the VM on?

HTH.

Re: [9520] Server Memory is too low

Thanks Simon for the reply. It's running SUSE 11 SP3 on vmware esxi 4.1 at the moment. I moved it up from 6 GB to 10GB so hopefully that should give it plenty of breathing room.

Thanks,

Re: [9520] Server Memory is too low

Hello,

I think this is the same bug that caused issues with webaccess where tomcat6 needed to be restarted to bring the service pack. It's not a problem with the amount of RAM in the server but a bug with GroupWise webacc or tomcat if I recall correctly. A few people schedule a cron job to restart tomcat each night, but not sure if this always works.

I've seen this error myself and it was usually after webacc had been running for a few days. A tomcat restart fixed it, but appreciate this does not resolve the issue (just makes the symptons go away for a bit).

Not sure if this has been fixed in SP1

Hope this helps,

Re: [9520] Server Memory is too low

We are still seeing this issue after giving 10 GB of Ram to the server. The server is running GWIA,MTA and WebAccess. Don't know if this is a known issue or not but I don't have any SR's available to report this. Restarting Tomcat always fixes the issue like you said.

We are also getting the same issue even after installing SP1. Have since upped the memory from 4GB to 8GB but expecting the problem will return.

Re: [9520] Server Memory is too low

I would suggest that you try increasing Tomcat's memory allocation using the -Xms (minimum) and -Xmx (maximum) parameters.

On SLES 11, you can edit the /etc/sysconfig/tomcat6 file and add a line at the bottom with those parameters, as below:

CATALINA_OPTS="-Xms1024M -Xmx2048M"

If you still see the errors after adding that switch, increase those min and max values until you don't get the error anymore (or if you have enough physical memory in the server, you could just start with a larger memory allocation like -Xms2048 -Xmx 4096 )

On my GW2014 boxes (hardware, not virtual), I realized the the DVA eats memory. "rcgrpwise restart gwdva.dva" frees up a lot.
YMMV

There are some post SP1 builds that fix DVA issues - the newer build
made a big difference for us.

Re: [9520] Server Memory is too low

I realize this is an old thread, but i'm seeing this on my GW2014 R2 HP1 Webaccess server. It's running on a Sles11 SP3 VM with 8GB ram, has both an mta and webaccess running on it. Restarting tomcat fixes the issue..but that's not really the fix I want 🙂 Does anyone have any further input on this?

What have you upped Tomcat's ram allocations to as per jlay's comments?
Does Uwe's suggestion of restarting the DVA help at all?
How long does it take for the problem to appear? If many days or
weeks, then a cronned restart of the troublesome agent makes for an
effective work around, otherwise this may well be time for opening a
Service Request.

Re: [9520] Server Memory is too low

We have this issue as well and just setup a cron to restart tomcat every night.

Where is the jlay's comment on the Tomcat ram allocation? I don't see it in this thread.
