All mail includes .txt attachment

Hello,

I have an issue where every mail message that comes on the iPhone/iPads(maybe others I am not aware of) through data synchronizer includes an attachment which appears to be an html version of the message however the htm file has a .txt extension appended(text.htm.txt).

The functionality seems fine, however users find this as an annoyance since it appears every single message on their phone has an attachment associated. Is there a setting I might be missing? I have other data sync servers and am not having this issue.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: All mail includes .txt attachment

I get the same thing with WAV files sent to me from my voice mail system. Only the shortest messages, maybe under 10 seconds come through normally but just about everything that I get comes across as a .wav.txt

In that case it sounds like longer WAV files have a file size that's
larger than the attachment size limit you've specified in the GW &
Mobility connectors. When an attachment is larger it doesn't go
through and instead you get a text attachment saying that the file is
too large.

This is completely different from what rpf2 is reporting.

Is "block hidden files" checked in the GW connector?

Also, what build of Mobility?

Re: All mail includes .txt attachment

I believe the txt extension is added if the attachment is greater than the attachment size limit. The name is preserved and .txt appended to it, but the attachment should be replaced with the text about the attachment being too large.

Correct, this is happening on every message, even if there is no attachment at all, it adds the text.htm.txt attachment.

We are using v1.2.02572

I also just realized in looking at my builds, the Groupwise connector is v1.2.0.2567. Would the difference in connector builds be possibly causing this?

In the advanced properties of the GW Connector, is "block hidden
attachments" checked?

To get the build number look at the very bottom of the browser. Since
the version string you pasted starts with 1.2 I'm guessing it's build
579.

Yes, I have this checked, I overlooked this because apparently the advanced options were not opening while using the web interface on Internet Explorer. They came up fine on Firefox. Not sure if that is a bug or something on my end. I assume I should try removing this?

Yep, build 579

Hmm... I was thinking it would be unchecked.

If you open one of those .txt files on the phone, what are the
contents? A text version of the e-mail or some sort of error message?

Re: All mail includes .txt attachment

This sounds very similar to the problem our datasync is having. I currently have an open SR with Novell on it. In our case (when it happens) the txt attachment is the message that the attachment is currently being downloaded and it happens to all users. What the tech has noticed when it happens you can connect to the mobility database and see the number of attachments waiting like so:

cat /etc/datasync/configengine/configengine.xml
Search for the 4th last line and it would be "<password>password</password>"
psql -U datasync_user mobility
Type the password that was noted in above step and press Enter
select count(*) from attachments where state = '1';
Type \q to quit

This will show you how many attachments are waiting. In our case the number would just keep growing until we restart the services (rcdatasync restart), then the number of attachments quickly goes down and once it gets to a low number, everything is okay for awhile. Right now we have a script that monitors the attachments and if it gets above a certain number it restarts the services, this is the only way our datasync is even functional right now. Novell has tried giving us a new datastore.pyc file and a new attachmentMonitor.pyc file, which has not fixed the problem yet. You should check to see if you have a high number of attachments waiting, if so you may have the same issue we do. We also have an issue where the /var/lib/datasync/mobility/attachments/.trashbin keeps growing and does not get emptied, I'm not sure if the 2 are related. BTW he showed me that in that sql command there are several states 1, 2, 3, 4, and 1000. If the attachment fails on 1, it goes to 2 and so forth, but you could check state 1000 (which is when it gives up) and see if you have a high number of attachments that have failed.

Re: All mail includes .txt attachment

worshamn,

it looks like it may be a different issue, because when I log in to SQL, the waiting attachment account appears to be staying at zero. thank you for the info, I will certainly keep an eye on this.

I am pretty sure it is a text version of the e-mail, however I don't use an iPhone, so I'll double check and post back.

I am having the same problem as well.

The message we are receiving is as follows:

text.htm : %size%
This attachment is still downloading, please try again later.

How large are the attachments? What is the limit you have set for attachments?

Re: All mail includes .txt attachment

Hello, we have the same problem with the attachments. We restarting the services with a cron job every 4 hours. Can you please give me an example of the script you build?
Or is the problem already solved? If so can you provide me the solution?

Kind regards,

Menno
